Blackmon seeks $6,750 in back pay

Newly sworn in Lancaster City Council member Linda Blackmon has requested back pay for the nine months she would have served on the council if Jackie Harris had not sued her over the 2016 election results.
Blackmon wants $6,750 in back pay, according to the agenda for Tuesday night’s city council meeting, which was set to begin after press time.
Blackmon’s request got mixed reviews Tuesday afternoon.

 

YMCA to take over USCL’s Gregory center

Officials announced Tuesday that the Upper Palmetto YMCA will be taking over the operations of USC Lancaster’s C.D. Gregory Health and Wellness Center.

The Upper Palmetto YMCA will start managing the 36-year-old center Dec. 1 to “increase programming and to enhance the fitness offerings of the center,” said Shana Dry, USCL’s spokeswoman.

 

11-year-old injured in hit-and-run

An 11-year-old boy was injured Thursday night in a hit-and-run accident just south of Lancaster, and the Highway Patrol is seeking the public’s help in locating the vehicle involved.
The boy, whose identity has not been released, was flown to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte after he was found lying next to the road at 8:25 p.m. His condition was unknown at press time.
According to Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Gary Miller, the incident happened on Evans Drive, near Barnett Street off McIlwain Road.

Skateboarder killed during midnight ride on a highway

A skateboarder was killed and a bicyclist seriously injured Thursday night when they were struck by a car on Lynwood Drive south of Lancaster.
The Lancaster County Coroner’s Office identified the deceased as Lorenzo Velasco Carlos, 20, of Lancaster.
