Weber takes over as Matanzas athletic director

PALM COAST - Rich Weber has been appointed to the post of athletic director at Matanzas High School.Weber, the boys' soccer team head coach for the past five seasons, was picked from a field of 75 applicants. Take a bicycle 'Tour de Palm Coast,' help dedicate new sculptures

PALM COAST - It's time for Palm Coast's annual Tour de Palm Coast bicycle ride. Again this year, the tour will make a stop at Waterfront Park to help dedicate two new Great Blue Heron sculptures as part of the City of Palm Coast's Art in Public Places program, according to a media release from the city.Both the bicycle ride and the sculpture dedication will be Saturday morning and participation is open to the public. Noblet promoted to Stetson men's tennis coach; Hatters athletes honored

DeLAND -- Christophe Noblet, Stetson’s Associate Head Coach for men’s and women’s tennis for the past two seasons, was recently promoted to men’s tennis head coach. The announcement was made by Stetson Director of Athletics Jeff Altier.
Noblet, who will begin his fourth season with the Hatters this fall, replaces former Director of Tennis Pierre Pilote, who resigned in June.
“This is a well-deserved promotion for Christophe and is based upon his performance over the past three years,” Altier said.

 

Boys & Girls Club gets $10K boost

DELTONA - First, the state cut funding to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Volusia/Flagler Counties. Then Joe Sullivan, executive director, and his staff missed a critical meeting, leading to Deltona cutting the club off from a source of revenue that provided $8,300 last year.Sullivan made an appeal before the City Commission Monday night, then went back to his front-row seat to await a decision.

 

Florida man arrested after 24-hour crime spree in DeLand area

A Florida man is facing multiple charges after authorities linked him to four crimes committed over a span of 24 hours, an official said.John Clark, of Eustis, was arrested Tuesday and charged with grand theft auto, attempted burglary of a conveyance, theft, robbery, possession of a controlled substance and driving with a suspended license, Volusia County sheriff's spokesman Andrew Gant said.Additional charges are possible as the 35-year-old's crime spree crossed into county and city territory in the DeLand area, Gant said.Clark's spree started with the Monday afternoon robbery of the Hontoon

PINEHURST, N.C. — With off-field issues overshadowing his program once again, Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher said Tuesday the Seminoles are "stepping up" their process of educating players about domestic violence and other issues.Speaking during the Atlantic Coast Conference's preseason media days, Fisher said the program has started a four-step program to address problems and build on character-building exercises that have been part of FSU culture for years."It's like coaching," Fisher said.
