A Danish technique for comforting premature babies with plush octopus dolls has hooked several Hardin County crocheters who are eager to help local families.

 

Nederland amputee surprised with new puppy after losing beloved dog on Christmas Day

Paul Arceneaux, 83, used to sit in his wheelchair in front of the TV in his Nederland home with his 12-year-old chihuahua, Gabby, while he recovered from surgery.
"She helped heal him," his wife Mary said. "She never left his side."
Arceneaux, who suffered from painful diabetes complications in his toes and feet for several years, had his lower left leg amputated in March. He spent the next seven months in and out of rehabilitation facilities.

A Beaumont man was arrested early Monday morning after police responded to an attempted burglary on French Road.

 

Dick's Sporting Goods submits plans for Parkdale Mall location

One year after Macy's announced the closing of its Parkdale Mall location, a major sporting goods retailer has submitted plans to the city to fill the space, one of the largest in the mall.
The city of Beaumont is reviewing plans for a Dick's Sporting Goods store at Parkdale, a city employee said Friday. The company has not received a permit yet.
A spokeswoman for CBL and Associates, the mall's owner, declined to comment Friday.
The company's press office did not respond to requests for comment.
Dick's currently has a store in Lake Charles and five stores in the Houston area.
