WASHINGTON – Health officials reported the first U.S. drug shortage tied to the viral outbreak that is disrupting production in China, but they declined to identify the manufacturer or the product.

The Food and Drug Administration said late Thursday that the drug's maker recently contacted officials about the shortage, which it blamed on a manufacturing issue with the medicine's key ingredient.

Biden won about half the votes cast by African Americans, dominating a crowded Democratic field with a group that can make up more than half the Democratic electorate.

 

Cook County, Illinois health officials report another coronavirus case

The Illinois Department of Public Health and Cook County Department of Public Health announced another Illinois patient has presumptively tested positive for coronavirus.

The patient’s test will be confirmed by the Center for Disease Control.

According to the IDPH, the patient is hospitalized in isolation and CDC protocols have been implemented.

The IDPH did not release any identifying information about the person in the case, including where the patient is from or where the patient

 

Biden wins South Carolina, aims for Super Tuesday momentum

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Joe Biden scored a thundering victory in South Carolina’s Democratic primary on Saturday, riding a wave of African American support and ending progressive rival Bernie Sanders’ winning streak.

Biden’s win came at a do-or-die moment in his 2020 bid as the moderate Democrat bounced back from underwhelming performances in Iowa, New Hampshire and Nevada.

 

Virus' effect on world economy grows more alarming

TOKYO (AP) — Concerns about the coronavirus outbreak's threat to the world economy grew Saturday, even after President Donald Trump denounced criticism of his response to the threat as a “hoax" cooked up by his political enemies.

China’s manufacturing plunged in February by an even wider margin than expected after efforts to contain the virus shut down much of the world’s second-largest economy, an official survey showed.
