KINGSPORT - Rick Quesenberry, 61, of Kingsport went home to be with the Lord, Saturday, August 10, 2019 at the residence of his daughter and son-in-law, following a period of declining health.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, August 14, 2019 at Bay’s Mountain Baptist Church. The service will follow at 7 p.m. at the church, with Pastor Tim Nelson officiating. 
Honorary pallbearers will be Roger Johnston, Doug Chappell, Ted Ball, Doug White, special friend, Mike Mellons, special friend Mike Akers, and special nephew, Chris Housewright.

 

Ballad Health receives $1.2M gift for new pediatric emergency department at BRMC

BRISTOL, Tenn. — Plans to develop a new pediatric emergency department at Bristol Regional Medical Center got a boost this week when longtime community members stepped forward to endorse and support this new service for children in Sullivan County and Southwest Virginia.
The J.D. Nicewonder Family Pediatric Emergency Department, a service of Niswonger Children’s Hospital, will feature a separate entrance and designated treatment rooms for children and their families.

KNOXVILLE — Tennessee defensive back Baylen Buchanan has a spinal condition that makes his status for this season uncertain.
Buchanan started all 12 games for the Vols last year but hasn’t been participating in preseason practice.

 

District attorneys will answer depositions in opiod lawsuit

KINGSPORT —  More than two years after local district attorneys announced their lawsuit against opioid manufacturers, legal wrangling continued Tuesday on who will answer depositions and when testimony will be shared in discovery.
Sullivan County Chancery Judge E.G. Moody chastised both sides at the beginning of the motions hearing — noting it is "amazing how attorneys can't agree on orders anymore" — but about 90 minutes later, some progress had been made. By Sept.

Tuesday Trivia: "Three Days of Peace and Music," the 50th anniversary of Woodstock Festival

The U.S Postal Service is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Woodstock Festival with a colorful Woodstock Forever stamp designed to represent the peace and music of the festival.
The stamp was dedicated on Aug. 8 at a First Day of Issue event held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
“Woodstock was the most famous rock festival in history,” said Kevin McAdams, vice president of Delivery and Retail Operations for the U.S. Postal Service.

 

Alleged Church Hill drug deal preceded police pursuit, crash at Lowe's

KINGSPORT – A high-speed chase that ended at the Kingsport Lowe's store Monday night with the suspect hitting three vehicles and crashing into the garden center, began after a Hawkins County deputy allegedly observed a drug transaction in Church Hill.
Arresting HCSO Deputy Hunter Jones stated in his report that Brooke Ann Begley, 28, 359 Barnett Drive, Kingsport, allegedly struck a vehicle while turning from West Stone Drive onto Deneen Lane toward Lowe's. She then allegedly hit two parked vehicles before crashing into the garden center.

 

Injunction hearing for suspended J.I. Burton football coach set for Aug. 26

NORTON — A motion by suspended John I. Burton High School football coach James Adams to be reinstated is set for Aug. 26 in Wise County and Norton Circuit Court.
The Circuit Court Clerk’s office confirmed Monday that Adams’ July 30 request for an injunction against the school board is scheduled for 11 a.m. before Circuit Court Judge Tammy McElyea.

Cleaning Out for Good: First Presbyterian Church to hold benefit yard sale on Aug. 17

KINGSPORT — First Presbyterian Church will hold a benefit yard sale on Saturday to raise funds for a special outreach project with Roosevelt Elementary School.
The sale will take place in the church Fellowship Center from 8 a.m. until noon. The church is located at 100 W. Church Circle.
THE BACK STORY
It started out when a Sunday School class was looking for something hands-on to do this summer, and decided to clean out the storage closet in their classroom and stock it with school supplies.
