GATE CITY — More than 200 children across Scott County received new clothes, hygiene items and school supplies on Thursday as part of the Scott County Rotary Club’s annual Back-to-School project.
Who: Led by project co-chairs Ashley Clark and Whitney McConnell, several club members and other volunteers gathered at Gate City United Methodist Church on Thursday morning to load the supplies for delivery. The items were given to students who had been identified by their teachers as having a need.

BRISTOL, Tenn. — The region’s Accountable Care Community is about to turn 1 year old, and that population health effort did some reflecting Thursday at the Bristol Regional Medical Center.
The ACC is a collaborative group with the goal to transform the health of this region. It consists of more than 200 individual organizations with more than 250 representatives who have joined forces to improve community health.

ROGERSVILLE – A woman who was seriously injured in a roll-over crash last month that occurred while fleeing police following shoplifting and hit-and-run incidents in Rogersville, was arrested Wednesday afternoon on several charges.
Nichole Beth Fields, 36, 222 Burem Road, Rogersville, wasn’t immediately charged following the crash because she was recovering from injuries.
According to the Rogersville Police Department the incident occurred on the afternoon of July 14 after Fields allegedly shoplifted an $11 pack of drill bits from the Rogersville Tractor Supply on E.

If that passion includes culinary arts, a new and unique program called Creative Cuisine might be just what the doctor ordered.
Creative Cuisine, a program of the Upper East Tennessee Human Development Agency, is a 14-week culinary experience that teaches students everything from basic knife skills and sanitation to creating menus and business plans.

JONESVILLE, VA - Betty Anne Waddell Bellamy, 90, of Jonesville, VA went home to be with her Lord and loved ones on August 7, 2019.
She passed away peacefully, while in her home, after suffering a brief illness and was being cared for by her loving family.
Betty was born on December 13, 1928 to Rufus P. and Eura A. Waddell. She retired from Lee Bank & Trust Company after 37 years of dedication. She served as a Sunday School teacher and was a faithful member of Jonesville First Baptist Church. Betty was a loving mother and grandmother who left a family legacy in love.

KINGSPORT — Muggles of the Model City, rejoice.
All month long, the Kingsport Public Library is hosting a number of special events and themed classes to celebrate all things Harry Potter. The celebration is being called OWL Wizarding Wonder Month and it’ll run from July 31 — Harry’s birthday — through Sept. 1.
The library will essentially be 4 Privet Drive, Hogwarts and Diagon Alley all wrapped into one through the end of the month. It’s the first time such a magical transfiguration has taken place at 400 Broad St.
