Douglas and Virginia (Smith) Nelson, of Bend, celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary with a camping trip to the Metolius River and a surprise reception hosted by their children at Hilliards Brewery in Seattle.The couple were married August 4, 1973, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Auburn, Wash.

Lydia Hoffman and Luke Valenti, both of Redmond, plan to marry Jan. 4 in Redmond.The future bride is the daughter of John and Janet Hoffman, of Redmond. She is a 2002 home-school graduate, a 2005 graduate of Central Oregon Community College and a 2007 graduate of Portland State University, where she studied English literature.

Caitlin Vallerga and Andrew Wade, both of Rome, were married July 27 at Aspen Hall in Bend. A reception followed.The bride is the daughter of John and Colleen Vallerga, of Bend.

Grace Lee and John Arathoon, both of San Jose, Calif., were married July 27 at Mission Santa Clara de Asis in Santa Clara, Calif. A reception followed at the Freedom Hall & Gardens.The bride is the daughter of Jen and Mai Lee, of San Jose and the late Ja-Lih Lee.

Phillip and Margery (Hanson) Weimar, of Bend, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with a trip to Reno with their daughters.The couple were married Sept. 5, 1953, at the Church of the Blessed Sacrament in Portland.

 

Butler — Davies

Jen Butler and Ben Davies, both of Bend, were married Aug. 10 at their home. A reception followed.The bride is the daughter of Deb Butler, of Terrebonne and the late Rodge Butler. She is a 2006 graduate of Bel-Rea Institute of Animal Technology, where she studied veterinary technology.

Joe and Rose (Bellanca) DeMeyer, of Bend, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with more than 100 friends and family at a reception hosted by their children at Juniper Golf Course.The couple were married Sept. 21, 1963, in Fontana, Calif.

 

Crossing Smith Rock; Video: Athletes test their limits on the highline

Suspended over some 200 feet, Caleb Houvener takes careful steps across a band of rope into the mouth of "Monkey Face" at Smith Rock State Park.Houvener, 19, traveled from Seattle to participate in the 2nd annual Smith Rock Highline Festival (Sep. 13 to Sep. 15). Around 80-100 amateur and professional athletes attended. The longest line, "Overdose," was 384 feet long.
