Arts committee seeks applicants

The city of Bend is seeking applicants to serve on the Arts, Beautification and Culture Commission.Two positions are open on the commission, which recommends to city officials how the city should participate in and support the arts, according to a press release.

 

Horse shooter reward increases

The Humane Society of the United States posted a $5,000 reward Tuesday for information leading to the arrest and conviction of anyone responsible for shooting of six wild horses this month in the Ochoco National Forest.That adds to the $2,000 already being offered by the Central Oregon Wild Horse Coalition. The total could now be $7,000.

 

Liquor store burglarized

An early morning stop at a westside Bend liquor store Monday netted a suspect about 30 bottles of beverages, according to the Bend Police Department.The suspect, seen wearing a heavy, dark colored coat with a hood, cargo pants and a baseball cap, smashed the glass front door with a rock at about 5 a.m., according to police.

 

Authorities investigate fires near La Pine

An Oregon State Police arson investigator is looking in to a series of fires discovered Tuesday about 10 miles southwest of La Pine along the Deschutes-Klamath county line.Echo Murray, dispatch coordinator for the Walker Range Forest Protective Association, said 11 fires were reported between about 1:30 p.m. and 3:50 p.m., all within a mile of each other near Masten Butte.

“Big Ears," a 2001 bronze sculpture by artist Joe Halko that sits at the Simpson Avenue-Mt. Washington Drive roundabout in Bend, is topped by a pumpkin on Tuesday. The installation is one of the seasonally decorated pieces featured at the city’s various traffic circles.

Jordan Hamilton was named November’s High Desert Hero by The Center Foundation in Bend. Hamilton, a senior at Ridgeview High School, maintains a 4.19 GPA. She is active in student leadership and council, dance and game setup, the student-based health center and ultimate frisbee.
