John and Marilyn (Voight) Rivera, of Bend, celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary with family and friends on trips to Hawaii, Disneyworld and Palm Springs.The couple were married Oct. 1, 1978, at Chapel of The Wedding Bells in Bellflower, Calif. They were high school sweethearts.

Sam and Jane (LaBrier) Catterlin, of Bend, will celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary at a family reunion in Bend this Christmas.The couple were married Dec. 18, 1948, in Corpus Christi, Texas.

 

Dayville man Tasered after leading chase in stolen car

Police used a Taser Saturday night to capture a Dayville man suspected of stealing a car from the Bethlehem Inn.Ricky Allen Elliott, 50, was arrested on suspicion of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, felony attempt to elude in a vehicle, reckless driving and resisting arrest, among other charges, according to the Oregon State Police.

 

U.S. Cellular 4G LTE available in Bend

U. S. Cellular has turned on its high-speed mobile network in Bend and the surrounding communities, the company announced Friday.The Chicago-based company, which has 4.9 million customers in 23 states, is the latest to roll out 4G Long Term Evolution in Central Oregon.

 

Casino challenge rejected

PORTLAND — The Oregon Court of Appeals affirmed the governor’s right to enter into tribal gambling compacts.A group of property owners from the coastal city of Florence filed a lawsuit a decade ago claiming the Oregon Constitution prohibits casinos, and the governor lacked the authority to sign a compact that allowed the Confederated Tribes of the Coos, Lower Umpqua and Siuslaw Indians to build its Three Rivers Casino & Hotel.

Lawsuit challenges Bend surface water project

A Bend-based land conservation group filed a lawsuit today against the U. S. Forest Service, challenging the agency’s approval of a special-use permit for Bend’s planned surface water intake upgrade and new water pipeline west of town.Attorneys working for Central Oregon LandWatch filed the lawsuit with U.S. District Court for Oregon in Eugene, according to court records.
