Sheriff cites juvenile for Thursday fire in east Bend

A mother and daughter living in a homeless camp off Neff Road were cited in connection with a fire that charred just less than four acres Thursday east of Bend.The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office cited a girl, 14, for reckless burning, reckless endangerment of another person and second-degree criminal mischief.

Grease fire damages Redmond home

A grease fire at a Redmond home Friday night was contained to the kitchen, though other parts of the house incurred significant smoke damage.According to Redmond Fire & Rescue, residents of 3056 SW Quartz reported the fire at around 8:25 p. m. A short time earlier, the residents had spotted grease left unattended on the stove had began burning.

 

Three Sisters Wilderness fire

Firefighters were on the scene of a small wildfire discovered in the Three Sisters Wilderness on Saturday evening, and planning to remain in place overnight to monitor the situation.According to the Central Oregon Interagency Dispatch Center, the fire is located about 11⁄2 miles north of Devils Lake off the Cascade Lakes Highway, and was reported around 1 p.m.

Cosmic Depot to host concerts

The Cosmic Depot will kick off its Pop Up Picnic series Monday in Bend.Through Aug. 28, The Cosmic Depot will present free live music from 5 to 7 p. m. every Monday. Food and beverages will be available for purchase from El Burrito and The Cake Lady.The lineup includes the Tone Red Trio, Mark Ransom, Brent Alan and Windy Hill.

 

Katz to speak on fermentation

Central Oregon Locavore and Weston A. Price Foundation will present acclaimed author and fermentation specialist Sandor Katz Wednesday in Bend.Author of “Wild Fermentation" and “The Art of Fermentation," Katz will demonstrate how to make kimchi, kefir and other fermented delicacies.br>The presentation runs 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Central Oregon Locavore, located at 1216 N.E. First St., Bend. Cost is $20.

 

Wings and Wheels set for July 27

Sunriver Resort is hosting the 19th annual Wings and Wheels Charity Fly-In July 27 at the Sunriver Airport.The event runs from 7:30 to 11:30 a. m. and features an antique car show, specialty airplane showcase, biplane rides, helicopter tours, aerial demonstrations and a pancake breakfast.The Wings and Wheels Charity Fly-In is free to the public. The pancake breakfast is $8 for adults, $5 for children ages 11 to 16 and free for children ages 10 and younger.
