Picture books for Fogg Library

As each week passes, our excitement is building for the reopening of Fogg Library. While our space for children will be smaller, we are working on putting together a robust collection of books to satisfy all youngsters. We have a list of picture books we want to add to the collection and need your help.

 

Paws to read with Lola

Bring your reluctant reader to come and meet Lola, our canine friend, on Wednesday November 20th at 4:00 p.m. in the children’s room at Tufts Library. Lola is four-year-old golden retriever who visits us to listen to stories. She's hoping any child who isn’t a confident reader will come in and read her a story. Lola is a gentle and patient listener who will help you practice your reading skills. Registration is encouraged, but not required.

 

Police: Middleboro man held after high-speed chase and Carver Dunkin Donuts break-in

Anthony Miranda, 42 of 912 Plymouth St., Middleboro, was a suspect in a Wednesday morning break-in at Carver’s Route 58 Dunkin Donuts, police said. When he was spotted on Thursday near the Middleboro/Carver town line, he tried to outrun police, Carver police said.

Federal prosecutors won’t challenge an appeals court ruling striking down the death sentence of Gary Lee Sampson because of a juror problem at his 2003 sentencing hearing.

 

Morning Jolt: Ikea sending more money to Philippines than China

China, a close neighbor of the Philippines, has only pledged $1.6 million in aid to the country, which was struck by a major typhoon on Nov. 7, USA Todayreported. At least 3,600 people have died in the natural disaster, and conditions are worsening by the day. China has taken flack for its pledge, as even Swedish retailer Ikea has pledged more, $2.7 million. The U.S. has pledged $20 million. 

 

 

China to abolish labor camps, ease 1-child policy

China will loosen its decades-old one-child policy by allowing two children for families with one parent who was an only child and will abolish a much-criticized labor camp system, its ruling Communist Party said Friday.

 

 

Parents try to sniff out kids' contraband in new exhibit

A group of parents scoured the room, poking through a backpack, peering under the bed and checking coat pockets, a gym bag and a laundry hamper. They were looking for evidence of drug and alcohol use hidden throughout a conference room made up to look like a teenager’s bedroom at the offices of BlumShapiro, a Quincy accounting and consulting firm.
