Many in Boston took time Friday to remember John F. Kennedy, whose legacy looms large in the city.  More than twice as many people as usual had visited the JFK Library and Museum by mid-day.

Reverent memorials mark JFK 50th anniversary

A half dozen Irish soldiers toting guns with brilliantly polished bayonets formed a guard of honor outside the U.S. Embassy in Dublin as the U.S. flag was lowered to half-staff in one of several solemn ceremonies planned Friday to mark 50 years since the assassination of President John F. Kennedy in Dallas. Similar events were planned for Boston, Washington, and in Dallas. That city will mark the day with a solemn ceremony in Dealey Plaza, through which the president's motorcade passed when shots rang out on Nov. 22, 1963.

 

Guilty plea expected in Mass. drug lab scandal

A chemist at a Massachusetts drug lab who allegedly admitted faking test results in criminal cases is expected to plead guilty to obstruction of justice, perjury and tampering with evidence charges in a scandal that has jeopardized thousands of convictions. Annie Dookhan of Franklin has a change-of-plea hearing scheduled for Friday in Suffolk Superior Court. She initially pleaded not guilty to a total of 27 charges.

 

Morning Jolt: 32 people die in grocery store roof collapse

A roof in a grocery store in Latvia collapsed, killing at least 32 people. Officials said that a garden was being built on the roof, and they are looking at that as the cause of the collapse. At least 35 people were injured as well, and officials say the death toll could rise once all the debris is cleared away.
