Morning Jolt: Geminid meteor shower explodes over Arizona

A meteor from the Geminid meteor shower exploded over Tucson, Ariz., last night. Many residents heard the boom and looked up to see a spectacular show. The meteor shower peaks on Thursday, when 100-120 meteors will be seen per hour. 

 

Marshfield firefighters recognized for heroic actions at Humarock fire

Four Marshfield firefighters were recently acknowledged by the Marshfield Board of Selectmen and will be recognized at the annual Massachusetts Firefighter of the Year ceremony later this month for their rescue efforts during a fire in Humarock on Nov. 6, 2012.

 

HINGHAM POLICE: Bomb threat under investigation

On Tuesday (Dec. 10), at 12:04 p.m. Officer Eric Chessler was dispatched to a business on Industrial Park Road for a report of a bomb threat. Employees at the business reported they received a phone call informing them there was a bomb in the business that would go off at 12:45.

The employee said the caller had attempted to disguise their voice. Chessler assisted by Sgt. David Horte, helped evacuate the business as other officers checked the surrounding areas. Hingham Fire Department personnel remained nearby.  After verifying all employees were clear of the building, Officers contacted the State Police Bomb Squad for assistance including a K9 trained in explosives detection. The building was searched using the specialty trained K9 and found no devices were found.

By 2 p.m. emergency personnel cleared the scene. The incident remains under investigation by Hingham detectives. It is a felony to make a false report of a bomb threat, punishable by up to 20 years in state prison, police said.
