Farwell man admits killing girlfriend's father

A Farwell man on Tuesday admitted to the 2016 killing of his girlfriend's father who had moved in with them to help with expenses, Clare County Prosecutor Michelle Ambrozaitis said.James Bryan Kuhns, 36, pleaded to a charge of open murder in the April 2016 killing of Leonard "Lenny" Hempel, a former Macomb County man who had moved to the couple's Farwell home not long before he was killed.

Scheutte to speak in New Baltimore Thursday

The presumptive GOP leader in the race to succeed Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder later this year is set to make a stop in Macomb County Thursday. The Anchor Bay Chamber of Commerce will host GOP Attorney General Bill Schuette in New Baltimore for the Business by the Bay series Thursday. Most polls have shown Schuette as the Republican front runner since the spring though Snyder, also a Republican, Monday called for an investigation of real estate dealings by the Midland native.

 

Bieda, Miller raise political heat in Macomb County clerk race

Political smears in the Democratic primary for Macomb clerk have ratcheted up with the two most high-profile candidates or their proxies exchanging jabs.State Sen. Steve Bieda this week filed a complaint with the Michigan Lottery questioning the legality of the Philip A. Hart Democratic Club staging bingo games to raise money in part to help one of Bieda's opponents, Fred Miller.

Oakland County Commissioner Phil Weipert has been selected to lead southeast Michigan's regional council of government leaders. The Southeast Michigan Council of Governments (SEMCOG) have appointed Weipert chair after serving as first vice chair for the past year under Chair Robert Clark, mayor of Monroe.

 

Sterling Heights man falls 15 feet onto 8 Mile after Ferndale police Taser him

A home invasion suspect Ferndale police say fled from officers was injured Tuesday after an officer stunned him with a Taser and he fell 15 feet from the Eight Mile service drive just west of Woodward onto the underpass of Eight Mile Road below.Ferndale police Sgt. Baron Brown said in a statement the suspect, 44, of Sterling Heights was taken to the hospital.

NFL players union files grievance over anthem policy

NEW YORK >> The NFL Players Association filed a grievance with the league on Tuesday challenging its national anthem policy.The union says that the new policy, which the league imposed without consultation with the NFLPA, is inconsistent with the collective bargaining agreement and infringes on players' rights.
