Service Circuit: Shelby Veterans of Foreign Wars post to receive tank

Folks in the Shelby Township area will see a military tank coming down the road in a month or two, but it has a peaceful purpose. The veterans from the Veterans of Foreign Wars Old Settlers Post 4659 are taking receipt of their new M-60 Korean War-era tank.The 50-ton tank will be transferred from Berville to Shelby Township.

 

Mound Road will have lane closures at 15 and 16 Mile in Sterling Heights Sunday

Mound Road from 14 Mile to 16 Mile roads construction project continues Sunday with lanes closed at 15 and 16 Mile Roads from early morning to the end of the day, according to the Macomb County Department of Roads. Through traffic on 15 and 16 Mile will not be permitted. Eastbound and westbound traffic on 15 and 16 Mile Roads will be required to make a right hand turn onto Mound Road.

 

American Polish Festival & Craft Show gears up for weekend fun

Thousands of Polish-loving people are expected to take in the colorful dancers, homemade ethnic dishes along with live music at this weekend's American Polish Festival & Craft Show on the grounds of the American Polish Century Club in Sterling Heights.The festival, which runs Friday-Sunday, typically draws about 20,000 people from all over Michigan, Illinois and Ohio, which features some of the biggest names in polka music, along with several polka dance ensembles, organizers said.

Will IndyCar racing return to Belle Isle in 2019?The green flag is in the hands of the Michigan Department of Natural Resources.The Detroit Grand Prix submitted Friday a proposal to the DNR for a Verizon IndyCar Series event to continue on the island in the Detroit River. The proposal included a three-year agreement beginning in 2019 with an additional two-year extension option.

Widow of UAW official sentenced to 18 months in prison for tax cheating

The widow of a former UAW vice president was sentenced in federal court today to 18 months in prison and ordered to pay $215,000 in a fine and restitution for cheating the IRS.Monica Morgan, 54, of Harrison Township, wife of the late General Holiefield, received the punishment from U.S. District Judge Paul Borman at the conclusion one-hour hearing in the Detroit courthouse, according to a court official.

Amen to that. But he also wonders: " What are you going to do to us next year and the next year?
