SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico>> Ten months after Hurricane Maria destroyed Puerto Rico's electric grid, the local agency responsible for rebuilding it is in chaos and more than $1 billion in federal funds meant to strengthen the rickety system has gone unspent, according to contractors and U.S. officials who are anxious to make progress before the next hurricane.

 

MCC Center Campus closed second day Friday

Due to a continuing power outage, Macomb Community College Center Campus in Clinton Township, including the Macomb University Center, will remain closed again Friday after it first closed Thursday. All classes are cancelled.MCC's South Campus in Warren will remain open.MCC spokesman Sean Patrick said a contractor working on Garfield Road cut an electrical line to Center Campus, and repairs cannot be completed in time to reopen Friday.

On Thursday, the Regional Transit Authority of Southeast Michigan's funding allocation committee wasn't able to come to a unanimous 5-0 vote, which means the Connect Southeast Michigan plan won't go forth for a public vote in 2018.

 

Chippewa Valley moves toward bond question

Chippewa Valley Schools is in the early stages of preparing a new bond issue question to be brought before voters. On July 16, the Chippewa Valley Schools Board of Education approved an application for preliminary qualification of bonds. As part of the motion, the board also approved submission to the state Department of Treasury.
