Former school official appointed new Macomb County human resources director

A former Center Line Public Schools official has been appointed to replace Karen Bathanti as director of the Macomb County Department of Human Resources and Labor Relations, according to the county executive's office.Andrew McKinnon previously served as assistant superintendent for human resources for the Center Line school district, where he was responsible for organizing, evaluating and developing district programs related to HR.

 

Sterling Heights police release videotape of 'brazen' home invader

Sterling Heights police on Tuesday released a home surveillance videotape that shows a masked man using a crowbar to break into a house in the area of 14 Mile and Ryan roads in June.The video shows the intruder first trying to unsuccessfully force his way into a patio door. The home invader then goes out to the front door, where after a few attempts, he is able to gain entry.

 

Hands-on learning at Detroit Zoo for World Snake Day

Visitors at the Detroit Zoo next week can learn about snake conservation with zookeeper talks and hands-on learning activities during a World Snake Day celebration.The event is from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday at the zoo's Holden Reptile Conservation Center.Zoo officials said guests can take part in conservation activities and learn how to identify snake sub-species by their appearance.

 

Owner of two Royal Oak restaurants 'shocked' by claim he is closing because of parking

The owner of two downtown Royal Oak restaurants said he has no idea why a group of city business owners and others opposing the city's $58 million Civic Center project put out a news release saying he was being forced out of business by a lack of parking."I'm kind of shocked by this whole thing," said Brian Kramer, who owns Cantina Diablo and Red Fox English Pub on Main Street at 11 Mile Road.

 

AquaFest in St. Clair Shores offers lakeside fun this weekend

The Nautical Mile in St. Clair Shores takes its place as the centerpiece of AquaFest, a two-day summer celebration featuring lakeside fun ranging from a dog-jumping event to a watermelon-eating eating contest among other family attractions.Event organizers say the festival, which takes place Saturday and Sunday, it's designed to showcase the collection of restaurants, marinas and speciality shops along the Nautical Mile, as Jefferson Avenue between Nine Mile and 10 Mile roads is known.

A committee promoting a property tax renewal for the Clinton Township Fire Department is using government facilities such as the fire station and email address.And that's a no-no, according to the Michigan Taxpayers Alliance (MTA).MTA chairman Leon Drolet said he has filed a campaign finance violation complaint with Michigan Secretary of State officials alleging the fire department is using local government facilities to push the upcoming public safety millages in the Aug.
