Charter Review Committee wants to allow sale of utility

The Charter Review Committee agreed it should be merely very difficult rather than impossible for citizens to sell Lakeland Electric. The committee will recommend to the City Commission that it take five of seven commissioners to put a sale on a general election ballot, which would then require a 65 percent super majority of those voting to approve. The committee has been charged with proposing changes to the City Charter by next summer.

 

Lochte's father says swimmer already back in US; Rio judge orders passports held

The father of American swimmer Ryan Lochte said Wednesday his gold medal-winning son arrived back in the United States before a Brazilian judge ordered that Lochte and U.S. teammate Jimmy Feigen stay in Brazil as authorities investigate their claim they were robbed during the Olympics.
