SUSTAINING THE ARTS: EVSC All Star marching band

The first fifth grade students who began Evansville Vanderburgh School Corp.'s Instrumental Initiative are entering their freshman year of high school this fall. In that time, the district has reinvigorated its music programs and provided about $1.4 million in instruments for students. The initiative — that provides instruments for students in band and orchestra as well as music studies and appreciation classes — has boosted attendance in the district's many honors bands, orchestras and choirs
