BOSTON — A man who spent more than 20 years on the run after he was indicted on child rape charges in Massachusetts will find out how much time he'll spend in prison.John Hartin is scheduled to be sentenced Tuesday in Suffolk Superior Court, following his conviction last week on five counts of child rape.The 48-year-old Hartin, formerly on Boston, was indicted in 1993, but fled before he was brought to trial.He was arrested in Walkertown, North Carolina, in June 2016, where he had been living under the name Jay Matthew Carter.

BOSTON — Six pioneering women are speaking at an International Women's Day celebration in downtown Boston.The Thursday event is being organized by 261 Fearless Inc., a women's running non-profit organization founded by Kathrine Switzer, the first woman to officially run the Boston Marathon.Switzer will join a panel discussion with four other women, including Ayanna Pressley, the first woman of color elected to the Boston City Council, and Zahra Arabzada, an Afghan student who founded "The Hijabi Runner" blog.

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. — FBI Director Christopher Wray is coming to Massachusetts to discuss cyber threats and challenges.Wray will be the keynote speaker Wednesday at the second annual Boston Conference on Cyber Security at Boston College.Wray's speech will address what federal law enforcement officials are doing to stay ahead of cyber threats and the importance of private sector partners, among other things.Wray will speak at 9:15 a.m. in Gasson Hall.

BOSTON — Nearly 200,000 people remain without power in Massachusetts in the wake of the powerful nor'easter that brought hurricane-force wind gusts and coastal flooding.Republican Gov. Charlie Baker, who declared a state of emergency on Saturday, is scheduled to visit Gloucester and Quincy on Sunday to inspect storm damage. Lt. Gov. Authorities on the South Coast and Cape Cod are on the lookout for a gray Subaru Hatchback with extensive damage suspected of striking and critically injuring an Onset firefighter during Friday night's storm.The firefighter was hit at approximately 7 p.m. Friday while assisting with traffic on Cranberry Highway.Wareham police said the car likely has extensive side mirror and front and passenger side damage from the impact. The vehicle, they said, was headed east toward Bourne.

BOSTON — Boston Marathon race director Dave McGillivray has an additional job title: children's book author.McGillivray's new book, "Dream Big: A True Story of Courage and Determination," is being launched Wednesday in Boston.McGillivray says it's a nonfiction picture book for young readers aged 6 to 10, based on an autobiography he wrote in 2006. He says his message to youngsters is how to cope with doubt, disappointment and loss.

A Westport woman is dead and police in Dartmouth are appealing to the public to help them find the driver they say ran her down last night and then fled the scene.Dartmouth Police Det. Kyle Costa said Stasha Lynn Faria, 33, was fatally struck while walking on State Road shortly before 7 p.m.Costa said the vehicle that hit Faria did not remain at the scene.Anyone with information about the suspect vehicle or its driver is urged to call Costa at 508-910-1755.

Wareham cops are turning to the public for help tracking down a hit-and-run driver they say seriously injured an on-duty firefighter during the height of the nor’easter.Officers and paramedics responding to a report of an injured Onset firefighter about 7 p.m. Friday found the victim near the intersection of Cranberry Highway and Onset Avenue, Wareham police Chief Kevin D. Walsh said in a statement. The firefighter, whose name wasn’t released last night, was taken to Rhode Island Hospital with serious injuries.

At least one of the half-dozen sewage treatment plants nestled along the Merrimack River flushed wastewater into the waterway during the powerful nor’easter that ravaged coastal communities and dumped several inches of rain across the state.Haverhill sewers overflowed in two locations Friday “due to rainfall and high flow,” one emptying the excess wastewater into the Merrimack and another into Little River, which flows into the Merrimack.
