Boots on the Ground for Heroes display stops in Newport

This is the first year that Operation Stand Down Rhode Island has set up the memorial anywhere other than Roger Williams Park in Providence. The display, which also features identifying information and photos of each service member, will remain up through Memorial Day.

Fire destroys boat off Jamestown

JAMESTOWN — A 36-foot-long vessel appeared to be destroyed by a fire that erupted after it pulled in near the East Ferry Landing in Jamestown, according to the Coast Guard. Witnesses say car, truck exchanged gunfire in Providence
