Dreams Come True lets local boy join the Jacksonville Jaguars for a day

Andrew Motley loves football.
But living with cerebral palsy and pulmonary disease has meant his dreams of hitting the gridiron have been limited to some high school play - until Thursday.
That’s when the Jacksonville Jaguars signed him to a special one-day contract, and after a tour of EverBank Field the 15-year-old Sandalwood High School student joined the action with the NFL in practice.

Jacksonville tourism sees more record-setting visitation figures in June

Tourism figures have set yet another record in visitation rates for Jacksonville.
Visit Jacksonville, the city’s tourism bureau, reported Thursday that the June hotel occupancy rate was 73.6 percent, a 6.5 percent increase over the same time in 2015 which was a record then.

Welsh pony to be auctioned Aug. 11 by Clay County Sheriff's Office

No horsing around here - the Clay County Sheriff’s Office is looking for someone to pony up some money as it auctions off a brown Welsh pony.
The male pony will be auctioned off at 10 a.m. Thursday at Clay County Animal Care and Control at 3984 Florida 16 W. in Green Cove Springs by the Sheriff’s Office’s Civil Unit.
Potential buyers must bring a trailer to transport the pony at time of sale.

Kaman Aerosystems lays off small portion of workers at Jacksonville facility

Kaman Aerosystems is laying off a small portion of its workforce at its aerospace parts manufacturing facility on Jacksonville’s Northside.
Kaman Human Resources Director Alex Patton confirmed Thursday that the company is in the process of informing some employees that they’ll be laid off, though he declined to provide a number of workers affected. He said a company official would likely issue a statement, though no such statement was provided by late Thursday afternoon.

U.S. Rep. Corrine Brown opening campaign office Sunday

U.S. Rep. Corrine Brown will open a Jacksonville campaign office this weekend, her team announced online Wednesday.
The office will be at 1410 Edgewood Ave. W., a block west of Lem Turner Road in a former supermarket now owned by a church.

Mayor Lenny Curry, other area politicos rally support for Donald Trump in Jacksonville

Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry spoke only briefly as the master of ceremonies for the rally supporting Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump on Wednesday, but said the businessman “will flip the status quo upside down and that is why you are here tonight.”
Curry, who was there with his wife and three children, joined other state and local leaders supporting Trump during a packed rally headlined by the Republican nominee at Veterans Memorial Arena.
