Can mediation mend relationships on Duval's school board?

After a year of accusing each other of communicating disrespectfully, including eye rolls, smirks, insulting texts, chastising emails and, most recently, a resignation request, the Duval County School Board and its superintendent say they are ready to call in a mediator.
They said Friday that they want to stop fighting and get help working with each other on academic goals and other district challenges.
But with a history of rancor, conflict and mistrust, can mediation mend their frayed relationships?

Detour involves Mathews Expressway
Expect a detour this week on the Mathews Expressway’s eastbound ramp to Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway and Gator Bowl Boulevard, according to the Florida Department of Transportation.
The ramp is scheduled to close from 8 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. Monday through Saturday as part of an ongoing $13 million project on the bridge.

Jacksonville man gunned down at Brentwood gas station

Jacksonville police said whoever gunned down a man at a Brentwood gas station Friday night fled in a car reported stolen from a hotel parking lot in late July.
James Clarence Young, 40, died after being shot multiple times at the Raceway, 1040 Golfair Blvd., about 7:30 p.m., said Sgt. Jay Farhat of the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

Police: 11-year-old Jacksonville girl found safe

Jacksonville police said an 11-year-old girl was found safe Saturday morning after running away from home when scolded by her mother late Friday afternoon.
Shayanna Erica Addison was recovered shortly before 11 a.m., said Officer Melissa Bujeda, a Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman.
Police provided no information about where the girl was found or circumstances of her recovery.
Shayanna had been last seen in the 500 block of W. 49th Street about 4:36 p.m. Friday, the Sheriff’s Office previously said.

Before Scott Ando received an offer last week to become the city’s next inspector general, he spent more than an hour answering questions from a selection panel about his strategic vision, leadership style and professional experience.
However, that panel of city officials, attorneys and a judge never asked Ando about his high-profile ouster as the leader of Chicago’s Independent Police Review Authority, a civilian agency responsible for investigating the Chicago Police Department — even though Ando mentioned it twice during his interview.

 

Man shot to death in Jacksonville's Brentwood area while filling car with gas

A man was shot and killed while filling his car with gasoline in Jacksonville's Brentwood area Friday evening, according to police.
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said a man was shot multiple times at a Raceway gas station located at 1040 Golfair Blvd. and died at the scene.
A Sheriff's Office spokesperson said police are searching for a silver, newer model Kia Forte which fled the scene. 
Police did not identify the victim, saying only he was in his 30s or 40s.

 

11-year-old runs off after being scolded in north Jacksonville, considered missing

Have you seen 11-year-old Shayanna Erica Addison?
Police say she was last seen wearing a multi-colored short-sleeve shirt, blue jeans with no shoes and carrying a red lunch bag. She's a black female, 5-foot-3 and 100 pounds. She has brown eyes and black long braided hair.
When Shayanna's mom came home from work she noticed her daughter's red lunch bag and shirt on the ground and told her to go pick them up. She scolded the child for leaving her things outside the house, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office says.
