Hours after Winston Blackmore was convicted of polygamy, some of his daughters changed their Facebook profile pictures.

Navajo Nation eyes purchase of Colorado ranchland

Window Rock, Ariz. • The Navajo Nation has created a committee to look into buying Colorado ranchland that’s home to cattle, bison and two mountains the tribe considers sacred.
The price tag for the property — roughly 26 square miles (67 square kilometers) on the Wolf Springs and Boyer ranches in south-central Colorado — is $23 million.
The two sacred mountains are Big Mountain Sheep/Obsidian Mountain, or Mount Hesperus, and Sisnaajini, commonly known as White Shell Mountain or Blanca Peak.

29-year-old man dies in Midvale motorcycle crash

Midvale, Utah • A 29-year-old motorcyclist has died after crashing in Midvale.
Unified police detective Ken Hansen says then man was traveling southbound through an intersection on Sunday when a car made a left turn in front of him, causing the motorcycle to slam into the vehicle.
Hansen says the motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet.

Grant to fund repairs on Middle Emerald Pools Trail in Zion National Park

The National Park Foundation has received a $1 million grant for upgrades to the Middle Emerald Pools Trail, donors announced Tuesday.
The grant comes from the George S. and Dolores Doré Eccles Foundation and will also cover youth programs, according to a news release from the foundation.
The Middle Emeralds Pool Trail in the Grotto area near Angel’s Landing has been closed to the public since December 2010 because of severe rain and mudslide damage, the release stated.

Two dead, girl seriously hurt in eastern Utah head-on crash

Two people died and a girl was seriously injured in a head-on collision near the eastern Utah town of Ioka.
The Utah Highway Patrol said 18-year-old Devin Kirk, of Heber City, was driving east on State Route 87 at 4:36 p.m. Sunday when his Chrysler drifted across the center line. It collided head-on with a Hyundai near mile marker 30.

One man was dead, three people injured and another man in custody in the aftermath of what police called a case of aggravated assault Tuesday morning in west Salt Lake City.

Mother sues Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office over alleged use of force against her teenage autistic son

The mother of an autistic boy has filed a federal lawsuit alleging excessive force against Duchesne County, its sheriff and a sheriff’s sergeant after the boy was handcuffed and bruised during his arrest by the sergeant earlier this year.
An internal review of the officer’s conducted by the Sheriff’s Office, however, found that the sergeant acted appropriately during the interaction, except for mistakenly switching off his body camera.
