Wal-Mart tests in-store lockers for online orders

Wal-Mart Stores Inc., the world's largest retailer, says it's setting up lockers in about a dozen stores so that shoppers who order on its website can pick up their items without having to wait in line checkout line.

 

Made in the USA: More consumers buying American

A curious thing is happening among American shoppers. More are checking labels and asking, "Is it 'Made in the USA?'" Walmart, the nation's largest retailer, earlier this year announced it will boost sourcing of U.S. products by $50 billion during the next 10 years. General Electric is investing $1 billion through 2014 to revitalize its U.S. appliances business and create more than 1,500 U.S. jobs.

Wal-Mart testing tiny on-campus format

Wal-Mart is synonymous with the term “big-
box store,” but it’s scaling down to a miniscule
2,500 square feet for a new store coming to
the Georgia Institute of Technology next
quarter. The second in a test format the company is
calling Walmart on Campus, the Georgia Tech
store will be the smallest in the country,
according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
The single Walmart on Campus store currently
in operation is at the University of Arkansas in
Fayetteville, Ark., less than an hour’s drive from
the company’s Bentonville headquarters.
There’s a company tie to the new location, too;
Wal-Mart president and CEO Mike Duke is a
Georgia Tech alum.

Those hoping to save a couple bucks on a last-minute Thanksgiving meal may want to shop at Target, which beat Walmart for the cheaper turkey dinner. Bloomberg Industries conducted a study of 15 retailers and determined that a Thanksgiving turkey dinner from Target is cheaper than one from retail competitor Walmart. An 18-item meal, including turkey, cranberries, onions, corn, pumpkin and heavy cream, from Target costs $45.48. The same dinner goes for $52.31 at Walmart, $70.18 at Whole Foods Market and $70.82 at Acme, owned by Supervalu Inc.
