More than 20 percent of black and Hispanic teens say they have used their cellphones to send a "sext" message showing a nude or semi-nude photo or video of themselves to another person, and more than 30 percent say they have received such sext messages, according to a new study.

Teens who send sexually explicit texts or photos are much more likely than those who don't to be sexually active, finds a survey of Los Angeles high school students.

Explicit “sexting” by kids may be far less prevalent than previously thought, and police intervention may also be less common according to two new reports published online today in the journal Pediatrics.
