FAA to issue rules aimed at tired airline pilots

FAA: Ray Lahood

Nearly three years after the deadly crash of a regional airliner flown by two exhausted pilots, the Federal Aviation Administration is releasing rules aimed at preventing airline pilots from flying while dangerously fatigued.

Senh: It all came down to money for people in the airline industry. "Too costly for safety benefits" was the reason why many of these safety rules weren't implemented in the past. I don't mind paying a little bit more for peace of mind. I don't want a tired pilot flying the airplane I'm seating in.

Some airline pilots would be required to get nine hours of rest between one work day and the next, an hour more than now, under proposed changes in federal rules.
