The Pakistani Taliban claims they used a turncoat CIA operative for the suicide bombing that killed seven CIA employees in Afghanistan as revenge for a militant leader's death.

A suicide car bomb exploded today in the middle of a group of men playing volleyball in northwest Pakistan, killing 30 and wounding 52, district police officials told CNN.

The year's tally was 319, compared with 155 in 2008, due mostly to the crude but ever larger and deadlier roadside bombs built by the Taliban.

A suicide car bomber killed 10 people, including four children, today at a police checkpoint on the outskirts of the northwestern Pakistani city of Peshawar, in the latest in a string of militant attacks targeting the city, officials said.
