It's rumoured that Nintendo's next console, Wii U, will have a full-blown App Store, with content far beyond Nintendo's current offerings.

In the last week’s time, Nintendo has unveiled its brand new Wii U home game machine, Sony has taken the wraps off its handheld PlayStation Vita gadget and Microsoft has breathed new life into the historic “Halo” game franchise.

Nintendo is taking the idea of the "second screen" to a new level. The company on Tuesday showed off a prototype gaming system called Wii U, which consists of a smartphone-like remote control that works with its existing Wii gaming system to let gamers play on two screens at the same time.

A report by Nikkei has confirmed the speculation that the Wii's successor will feature a touch-screen device as its controller.

Depending on which Internet rumor you believe, it will be called Wii 2, Project Café or Stream. The only thing we know for certain about Nintendo's new video game system is that it's coming in 2012.

Nintendo is dropping the price of its Wii game system by $50 to $150 and introducing a new line of cheaper Wii games....

The successor to Nintendo's hit Wii console will arrive next year. In disclosing its plans Monday, Nintendo Co. didn't say what the new system will do. The Japanese company plans to show a playable model of the new console at the Electronic Entertainment Expo, which runs June 7-9 in Los Angeles.
