An outbreak of a rare strain of salmonella poisoning linked to dog food has infected at least 14 people in nine states, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Prevention said.

A frozen raw yellowfin tuna product from a California-based company likely is responsible for an outbreak of salmonella across 20 U.S. states, plus the District of Columbia, the CDC says.

At least 27 people, most of them in Colorado, have fallen ill from a salmonella outbreak that prompted the recall of more than 800,000 pounds (360,000 kg) of ground beef in 12 states, federal and state officials said on Friday.

A Fresno-based beef company is recalling hundreds of thousands of ground beef products because of concerns it may be linked to an outbreak of salmonella.
