The Senate's website was hacked over the weekend, leading to a review of all of its websites, in the latest embarrassing breach of security to hit a major U.S.-based institution.

As implantable medical devices such as pacemakers and insulin pumps have become more common, one innovative feature has been the addition of the ability to control the devices wirelessly via the internet. This approach has enabled doctors to improve the well-being of their patients through additional data monitoring and control without the need for additional surgery. But it’s also opened the door for security threats.

Their cyber attacks on governments and corporations have seen the loose collective of hackers known only as “Anonymous” pass from obscurity to becoming the byword for online guerrilla warfare. Nevertheless, the group has remained an enigma.

About 200,000 Citibank credit card customers in North America have had their names, account numbers and email addresses stolen by hackers who broke into Citi's online account site.

Sony is not having a good year. As the company scrambles to get the PlayStation Network and Qriocity music service back online, it's suffering from yet another security breach.

PBS officials say hackers have cracked the network's website. The hackers apparently posted a phony story claiming dead rapper Tupac Shakur was alive in New Zealand....

Sony said on Saturday it had removed off the Internet the personal details of 2,500 people that had been stolen by hackers and posted on a website.

The attack also has crippled Sony's PlayStation Network, which has some 70 million subscribers and has been down since April 20... The hacker could have taken credit card numbers, card expiration dates, billing addresses, answers to security questions and purchase history, but not credit-card security codes...

The company said an “unauthorized person” had obtained personal information about its account-holders, possibly including their credit card numbers.

The names and e-mails of customers of Citigroup Inc and other large U.S. companies, as well as College Board students, were exposed in a massive and growing data breach after a computer hacker penetrated online marketer Epsilon.
