Google to kill Buzz, focus social efforts on Plus

Google to kill Buzz, focus social efforts on Plus

Google is getting ready to press the mute button on Buzz, an online social networking service that turned into a massive faux pas.

Senh: It doesn't make sense to have both. Althought Google+ is turning into Buzz, meaning it's pretty dead, even if there are a lot of users, most of them are probably inactive.

Larry Page: Google+ has 40 million users

After nearly four months, Google+ now has 40 million users, says Google CEO Larry Page.

Senh: Let's see if they can keep this going. Most of my friends have already abandoned it. The only ones who are still using it are just pimping their products. Google+ is a nice product - clean, sleak, and intuitive. The only problem is most of my friends are on Facebook, and they don't want to leave for a similar service. Google+ still needs a more compelling reason - kinda like when Facebook first opened up their API to developers.

After long wait, Facebook releases application for iPad, updates iPhone app

One of the big, enduring questions of the technology world: “When will iPad users get their very own Facebook app?” The answer is —now. Facebook is releasing an updated version of its iPhone application on Monday afternoon, one that’s also designed to fill out the larger screen of the iPad. Like the previous iPhone version, it’s free.

Senh: I don't understand the point of iPad apps for websites. You can access the web from your iPad, and the screen is large enough that you don't have to zoom in and scroll.

Cornell University researchers turned to the microblog to study mood and found a pretty consistent pattern.

Google+ opens up, traffic rockets 1200+ percent

Reports of Google+'s demise may have been greatly exaggerated, as the upstart social network exploded in traffic last week after the service opened up to the masses.

Senh: Let's see if people stick around. My hunch is that they won't. If you can't get early adopters to stick around, how can you get the general masses to do it?

Facebook changes worry privacy advocates

Users and privacy advocates have expressed concerns about Facebook’s planned redesign, the way the change will affect third-party apps and the network’s general approach to privacy. Third-party apps will be fully integrated into a user’s profile page, with updates about activity on each app. That means that users won’t actively click to share updates from apps — the apps will add that information to a user’s page automatically.

Senh: As long as there's a switch to turn it off, I'm fine.

Police found a woman’s decapitated body in a Mexican border city on Saturday, alongside a handwritten sign saying she was killed in retaliation for her postings on a social networking site. The gruesome killing may be the third so far this month in which people in Nuevo Laredo were killed by a drug cartel for what they said on the internet.
