Connecticut Governor Dannel Malloy is expected on Thursday to sign a tough new gun law that restricts sales of the sort of high-capacity ammunition clips that a gunman used to massacre 26 people in minutes in a December attack on a school.

Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper signed landmark new gun laws on Wednesday expanding background checks on gun purchases and limiting the size of ammunition magazines, placing the traditionally firearm-friendly state among the handful to pass new restrictions in the wake of the shooting in Newtown, Conn.

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie blasted the NRA for an ad mentioning President Obama's daughters, calling it "reprehensible." "I think it's awful to bring public figures' children into the political debate. They don't deserve to be there," the Republican said at a Trenton news conference. "For any of us who are public figures, you see that kind of ad and you cringe."
