Leap Motion, a highly accurate device allowing users to control their PCs with gestures, will be embedded into a range of HP laptops. The controller is able accurately to detect the movement of 10 fingers at once, allowing for intricate gesture-based controls.

Hewlett-Packard Co. said that a British company it bought for $9.7 billion last year lied about its finances, resulting in a massive write-down of the value of the business. CEO Meg Whitman avoided calling it a fraud, but said Tuesday that there were "serious accounting improprieties, disclosure failures and outright misrepresentations at Autonomy Corporation PLC."

In a dramatic reshuffling, Hewlett-Packard Co. said it will end its tablet computer and smartphone products and may sell or spin off its PC division, bowing out of the consumer businesses.

The company revised its forecast for the current quarter, indicating worries about the impact of the Japan earthquake, softness in sales of PCs and lower operating profits in its services unit.

Google and HP proved that companies can make tablets with UI as usable as the iPad, if not moreso. Now, with the iPad 2 being announced next week, Apple is the one that needs to play catch-up.
