    Let me explain how I consider it. 'morning' with the possessive 's is considered as a noun. Then we allow to use possesive 's with it (except the fact that it isn't an animate noun, it's just allowable from grammar point of view). When we don't use a possessive 's with 'morning' then it's treated as an adjective and it describes the following noun.

  • “in the morning” vs. “in morning”
    For the future it is OK though: I will message you in the morning. Note that you'd only use this morning if it were the same day that you messaged the person. in the morning can be used in more situations. Being past tense, if you had some other way to indicate the date, in the morning would be okay.
