Stories Related to Suspect Connected To Baldwyn Shooting, Tupelo Chase Dies

TUPELO – The suspect that shot and killed a Baldwyn woman before leading law enforcement officials on a chase through Tupelo that resulted in a shootout at an apartment complex has died. 27-year-old Lyndarius Witherspoon of Tupelo died as a result of a shootout with law enforcement officials Saturday afternoon at Hilldale Apartments on Monument Drive, according to Lee County Coroner Carolyn Green. The incident started in Baldwyn on Saturday afternoon when Witherspoon allegedly shot and killed Alexandra Caldwell, 23, according to Baldwyn Police Chief Troy Agnew. Witherspoon fled from the scene in Baldwyn and wound up in Tupelo where TPD officers began the chase after recognizing the suspect’s license plate from an alert. Officers followed Witherspoon down Cliff Gookin Boulevard to Lawndale Drive to Ida Street before the chase ended on Monument Drive.
