When Matt Lavine says he has run marathons everywhere, it is not hyperbole. The 46-year-old Crystal Lake man has completed famous races like Chicago and Boston multiple times. He ran his fastest time (2:32:31) in New Orleans many years ago. Lavine has run more intimate races in flat states like Kansas and Nebraska, and he survived the Pike’s Peak Marathon, a grueling race that took him 8 1/2 hours where runners start with 20% less oxygen and run up the peak, where there is 40% less oxygen, then back down. Last month, with his mother Sharon watching, Lavine competed in the Maui Oceanfront Marathon, taking in a breathtaking view while running along the Pacific Ocean.
