By Nancy MolnarSpecial to the Beacon JournalCANTON: Stark County commissioners are planning to spend about $2.7 million to renovate a building they bought in October for $445,500.The building at 402 Second St. SE will be used to house the Children’s Services Division of the county Department of Job and Family Services.Commissioners on Wednesday approved a contract for architectural services for the project with SoL Harris/Day Architects of Jackson Township.The base cost of $176,060 represents 7 percent of the estimated construction cost of $2.5 million.The contract includes up to $25,000 for reimbursable expenses and $5,200 to evaluate the building’s heating, ventilating and cooling system.The work will include a new roof and renovation of the building’s three floors, according to County Administrator Brant Luther.The county expects to recoup its investment in the building within six years, he said.
