Southern Summit, northern Stark and northern Wayne counties were the hardest hit areas in a series of showers and thunderstorms that rumbled through the area late Thursday. Numerous trees and utility poles were downed in Green, Uniontown, Hartville and Canton, said U.S. Weather Service meteorologist Zach Sefcovic in Cleveland.Some roads in northern Stark County were closed late Thursday due to downed trees.A team from the weather service was visiting northern Stark County, the hardest-hit area, today to determine if the damage resulted from a tornado or straight-line winds, he said.The Akron-Canton Airport got 1.45 inches of rain on Thursday and recorded winds of 36 miles per hour, although the winds may have been higher in the storm areas, he said.The Akron Fulton Airport got 2.11 inches of rain in the 24 hours ending at 7 a.m.
