AlbanyCommon Council President Carolyn McLaughlin, a veteran South End politician, was elected chairwoman of the Albany County Democratic Committee Monday night in a vote that capped a tumultuous three weeks inside the party.McLaughlin, who takes over a once-powerful organization now bitterly divided and effectively broke, vowed to try to bring both unity and prosperity to the party and the people it's supposed to serve."I look forward to trying to be a voice of reason that will bring people together," she said.
