The state Department of Public Health, assisted by local health officials, collected and analyzed samples from 674 private wells in Stamford. More than 11 percent of the 732 water samples collected contained uranium levels above the Environmental Protection Agency’s “safe limit.” “Homeowners in Stamford should probably test for arsenic, or at the very least uranium,” said Brian Toal, epidemiologist for the state Department of Public Health’s environmental health division.
