Sales increase 3.3% over a year earlier in a usually slow month. Notably, beleaguered Abercrombie & Fitch posts an 8% increase. Although they didn't spend huge amounts, shoppers turned out at the nation's malls in January, helping retailers post solid sales for the notoriously sluggish month.
