Slick Roads In Colorado Springs Temper Turkey Trot

Drivers weren't the only ones facing hazardous road conditions after recent mild weather took a sharp turn Thanksgiving Day. Hours before runners were due to hit the street for the 18th Annual YMCA of the Pikes Peak Region Turkey Trot, organizers headed out to pace the 5K Briargate-area race route, clear trouble spots, and spread ice melt."We were out and about at 4:30 in the morning, putting it out by hand and spreading it on the road everywhere making sure it was safe for runners," said race coordinator Lindsey Leiker.
