A Boulder elementary school was on secure status Tuesday as deputies investigated reports of shots fired in the area, sheriff’s officials said. Investigators believe the sound of reported gunshots was actually a squirrel tripping an electrical fuse, Boulder County sheriff’s officials said after talking to Xcel Energy. As of 12:15 p.m., Douglass Elementary School in Boulder had been given the all-clear after a building-wide search, Boulder Valley School District officials said in an alert. The loud cracks previously believed to be gunshots were heard around 11:30 a.m.
