Despite being more than 25 members short of a fully staffed unit, Amarillo Police Department remains committed to serving and protecting the streets of Amarillo, even if that means frequently having to work extra shifts, APD Public Information Officer Jeb Hilton said Friday. The lack of available officers means that, according to APD officials, officers are notified on almost a daily basis that help is needed, and asked to cover shifts around the clock. “We’re about 26 short of where we’re supposed to be,” Hilton said. read more
