Shawnee Man Who Confessed To 1977 Murder May Be Released On Bond

HOHENWALD, Tenn. — A Tennessee man wanted for a 1977 murder, who surrendered to authorities in Hohenwald after more than three decades on the run, could be released on bond. James Brewer, a 58-year-old former machinist, turned himself in while recovering from a stroke in a Shawnee, Okla., hospital. He fled Tennessee and assumed a new identity just before he was to stand trial for the murder of Jimmy Carroll in Hohenwald. Brewer is very sick and must be fed by a feeding tube while he waits at the Lewis County jail for his bond hearing. Brewer, who has been in the jail since March 12 after turning himself in, is scheduled to go before Judge Robbie Beal in Lewis County Circuit Court for his bond hearing Monday morning. see more on NewsOK.com
