Published 2:41 pm, Saturday, January 12, 2013 Producers for the top-rated show starring Howard Stern are at the Convention Center this weekend for an open casting call that attracted more than a thousand people in its opening hours Saturday. Last season, San Antonio's preteen mariachi Sebastien De La Cruz made it to the show's semifinals, withstanding Stern's withering glare and winning over a millions of TV viewers. A line of hundreds wrapped itself along the Market Street side of the convention center for a chance at a 90-second audition — and the possibility of fame and the $1 million grand prize. The turnout, a dizzying array young and old, included a face-painted wresting card-trick magician, break dancers, a Christian rapper, a Russian-rapping teenager, a ukulele brother and sister act, a flag and dance troupe, singers, mariachis and, yes, Santa. Chad Lore, 44, of Casper, Wyo., sat nearby making small talk and prepping for his rendition of Elvis Presley's “Guitar Man” made special with the added element of tap dancing as he strums guitar, blows harmonica and sings. Dancer Hope Mulholland, 20, a member of the San Marcos-based Identity Winter Guard dance and flag troupe, described their routine — which included twirling mock rifles and real sabers — as “extreme marching band, but without the band.”
