Royal Oak officials are divided over doing a "road diet" test that would eliminate a traffic lane on some parts of Main Street and add bicycle lanes. The plan would allow for only two lanes of traffic, a center turn lane, and a dedicated bike lane on either side of the road.Mayor Jim Ellison is concerned that constricting vehicular traffic on a major street in the downtown may drive away visitors and possible tenants just as Royal Oak is about to see several large hotel, apartment and office developments taking shape on Main Street.
