The Rotary Club of Lake in the Hills recently took a trip to Antigua, Guatemala, to help restore a school that had been severely damaged by the De Fuego volcano of 2018. The trip was a group effort with six Rotary clubs that also included Huntley, Palatine, Chicago – Near South, Cary-Grove and Arlington Heights. The group teamed up with a local club, the Guatemala City Rotary Club – UWARA. Over the course of eight days, the Rotarians was able to accomplish paint all 12 classrooms and interior squares and hallways of the school, tile three rooms in the school, install a playground and playground equipment, buy and install new erase boards for the classrooms, buy fans for all of the classrooms, and buy and install new lighting for all classrooms. More than 700 students ages 5 to 13 who attend the school.
