Rethinking History Class on Columbus Day

Elaine Thompson / AP Generations of schoolchildren have memorized the rhyme chronicling the famous voyage of Christopher Columbus: In fourteen hundred ninety-two, Columbus sailed the ocean blue. He had three ships and left from Spain. He sailed through sunshine, wind and rain. Factually, when it comes to Columbus, that’s pretty much where agreement ends.
